Samayam, Kallur

Tucked away near Kallur, deep within the heart of a village, the journey to the site feels like a gentle transition away from the world. Fields stretch endlessly on all sides, and nature quietly takes over. It is here, amidst this rural stillness, that the artist’s retreat reveals itself. Emerging from the landscape with a solid, sculptural presence, the retreat occupies the entrance of a long, linear plot. Its placement offers uninterrupted views into the open expanse beyond. Built in terracotta tiles, the home becomes one with its surroundings- rooted in earth.
Designed as a space to witness, the retreat embraces the changing seasons and invites the monsoons of Kerala to be felt and savoured. The scent of petrichor drifts in with the rain, becoming part of daily life. Every corner of the home is crafted to slow you down, to observe, to let you listen to the breeze, watch the clouds roll in, and feel the earth soften underfoot. With a minimized footprint, the design is both mindful and maintainable, ensuring ease for its owners while celebrating the essential.
This is not just a home, but a sanctuary for solitude, reflection, and a deep, ongoing dialogue with nature.
